Another Filipina gets raped by an American...again
Aw fuck. This is what happens when I turn on the television and actually inform myself about what is going on with the world. This piece of shit is all over the Local News and why wouldn't it be? It was terrible. This Filipina accused two US military soldiers that they raped her...but it was all circumstancial evidence that even I don't know what to believe. The two dudes argued it was consensual. They even appeared in Local TV broadcast while I was enjoying my cereal for sympathy effect of some sort. And I was half-convinced that one of them didn't do it. For a while the Filipina, they call her 'Nicole', pressed on with her case and even had our Feminist Movement GABRIELA fighting for her and then all of a sudden she drops the charges because she was granted a US Green Card? I was actually upset, considering I'm perfectly happy being an anti-social and do not find a need to care about anything outside that comfort zone. I was very upset somehow  but not as upset as Light was with his cheeful 'the world is rotten' view

I'm babbling and whining because I don't really know what to make of this. I'm mad that she just gave up because she was bought off or something. I don't know if Smith is guilty but it seems to me that somebody has to pay for all the damage caused on both sides, I guess. I think I'm more pissed off with the fact that Nicole must be another one those Filipinos who can't wait to be an American citizen and would do anything to see it fulfilled. I have no problem with some of my fellowmen who want to go to US for their American dreams but I just hate how desperate some of these people have to become. I hate to think Nicole is an example of this repulsive conformity to the White Man's BS. The Philippine Economy is burying us with all that debt and corruption, and I know moving to another country to find some means of livelihood is a solution, but not the only solution. And GABRIELA really supported her and she just waited their time and effort for a lousy green card.

But what the fuck do I know? See for yourselves about NICOLE'S RAPE. It's seriously whacked. Smith got what he deserved (I guess some justice must have been served.) Still I feel uncomfortable...was she really raped? What the fuck really happened? Are the media hounds of the Locas News being cannibals again? Some sort of political agenda between The Philippines and the US government? What?! I shouldn't even be talking about this in here but I just have to vent out. This affects me as a Filipino citizen and a woman...or whatever the fuck I am being empathetic about.

Nicole’s case might have been like hundreds, if not thousands, of other cases of rape that had been reported in or around US military bases in the Philippines since 1946. But no American soldier had ever been convicted of raping a Filipino woman until December of 2006 when Makati Trial Judge Benjamin Pozon pronounced Smith guilty of raping Nicole. Instead of being remanded into custody in a Philippine jail, however, Smith instead was transferred to the US embassy, where he awaited the eventual reversal of his conviction which occurred last week.

SC: Smith should be kept in local jail

MANILA, Philippines—The American Marine convicted of raping Filipino woman “Nicole” should be detained in a Philippine-run facility, and not at the US Embassy, while he awaits the result of his appeal, the Supreme Court ruled Wednesday.

The tribunal also upheld the RP-US Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA)—which governs the conduct of servicemen participating in joint military exercises in the country—as constitutional.

Voting 9-4, the high court said the 2006 executive agreement between Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo and US Ambassador Kristie Kenney that led to Lance Cpl. Daniel Smith’s transfer from the Makati City Jail to the US Embassy was inconsistent with the provisions of the VFA.

It ordered Romulo to “forthwith negotiate” with a US representative to agree on the detention facility for Smith.

But the court said that pending the agreement, Smith should stay at the US Embassy “until further orders by this court.”

In 2006 Smith was convicted and sentenced to 40 years in jail for raping a Filipina after he took part in military exercises north of Manila in 2005.

His conviction prompted Washington to threaten calling off large-scale military exercises with Manila until Smith was transferred to US detention.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said Smith would “definitely” be transferred to Philippine jurisdiction.

He said the negotiation would determine the appropriate facility for Smith.

Papi also thinks Daniel is innocent. And I did find him convincing on Local TV one night when he said he didn't rape Nicole or anybody. And the fact that Nicole looks like she accepted bribery didn't make things less suspicious on her part now, does it? But there were two of them, the ones who are accused to have raped Nicole and I'm sure that it was just a clash of cultural practices in some way; I mean Filipinos are conservative even when they are loose and an American might interpret it as a means to carry on with the flirting. I mean, Nicole did confess that maybe Smith was just reading her feminine wiles and acting on them.

I just hate the fact Nicole wasted GABRIELA's time when she just wanted an easy way out.

IT's really hard to choose sides when you don't really know the whole story.

I'm just afraid about the possibility that more filipino women would trick the American society (or any other society) just so they can get different gains. That's just shallow. It would only severe the united bond between Philippines and America.

I personally fucking HATE the Macapagal-Bush ties...it's ludicrous and shameful. Thank god Obama is elected! I was afraid Bush will start sending Filipino troups to fight American war; with GMA's approval. SHIT!

As for what Nicole did, my only offense was she took advantage of GABRIELA who really fought for her dignity.

I agree with you all the way; Unlike Bush who treats us Filipinos like horse crap, President Obama is a very serene and clever man who treats every living person his friend. And Bush is just too scandalous to be president. his generation of presidency drove everyone nuts.

She didn't even bother to fight back. Instead, she relied on GABRIELA and wasted their efforts after she got her green card. What kind of person does that?

Bush is a republican. I am not. That's my only prerogative on the matter. I also greatly disliked his "No child left behind" policy. And after the documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11," pretty much everything related to him became despicable.

I have no idea what really motivated Nicole's actions but I'm just not pleased with the outcome of said actions.

it's just frustrating to know that these people always have hidden agendas.

That's how it is, right?

Thieves get rich, saints get shot and God doesn't answer prayers a lot.
